Build a Fire
03:45
|
|||
Woke up in the morning with you on my mind
Feeling cold and lonely as that ash gray winter sky
Gazed out of the window past those frozen pines
Woodpile’s getting higher, it's time to build a fire
Build a fire
Build a fire
Burn the whole thing down now
We’ll send it off in style
Stripped it bare tore it down and ripped it clean in two
Left me with the ashes of all that's left of you
(Inst Break)
You told me that you loved me, I believed it to be true
Turned around the next day and you told me we were through
Left me out to freeze here on this barren mountainside
Chopped down all the wood now it's time to build a fire
Build a fire
Build a fire
Your love has grown cold now it's time to build a fire
Stripped it bare tore it down and ripped it clean in two
Left me with the ashes of all that's left of you
(Inst Break)
Build a fire to be warm
If that's what you need to do
I'll build mine just for you
And burn up every trace that reminds me we are through
Stripped it bare tore it down and ripped it clean in two
Left me with the ashes of all that's left of you
(Inst Break)
The fire is dying and I'm going to bed with whiskey in my head
Everything I've lived for has been left for dead
I feel you in the embers and see you in the ash
Nothing that I do will ever bring you back
Build a fire
Build a fire
Your love has grown cold now it's time to build a fire
Stripped it bare tore it down and ripped it clean in two
Left me with the ashes of all that's left of you
Left me with the ashes of all that's left of you

River of Whiskey
04:33
|

River of whiskey
Running through my head
Something tells me I'm better off dead
Little piece of ground is all I stood on
When that river of whiskey floated me back home
Chorus
River is deep
River is wide
But it don't take long to reach the other side
Where I come from It's hard to deny
That river’s always risin’, tides always high
From muddy banks I watch gadwall fly
That kind of sight makes me wanna cry
Tensaw river wash away my pain
River of whiskey runs through my veins
Chorus
That river was whiskey
And I was that poor old duck
I swam to the bottom and never came up
But it's not so bad I'm doin fine
Coulda been worse
Coulda been wine
Chorus

Sunset Limited
04:10
|

Down on Mobile Delta the fog’s been rolling in
There's a towboat headed north with a heavy load of coal
But the crew’s a little thin
The captain's sound asleep, first mate is at the wheel
Can't see a damn thing and not sure which way to go
They don't know their fate is sealed
With those barges way out in front, they took a wide turn
Lead barge took a jolt but no one can see
Probably just a cypress tree
They drive on in the fog, little do they know
They hit the swing bridge over Bayou Canot
And the train is rolling on
Fire on the delta burning through the fog
Lies heavy down on Bayou Canot
The only way to get there is by boat or by rail
Sunset Limited rolls on toward daybreak
A little late leaving New Orleans
Trying to make Jacksonville
Passed Mobile just before sunrise
Most passengers were lying still
Green lights clear over the delta, making pretty good way
They hit that bend in the rail sent them end over end
Down to a watery grave
Fire on the delta burning through the fog
Forty seven souls in the swamp
The only way to get there is by boat or by rail
Sunset Limited lies in a watery grave

Thank You

When I was a young man
I left my home
For the desert, to fight a war
They trained me up too fast
Put a rifle in my hands
Showed me the enemy, asked if I’s a man
The water was dirty
The food tasted like ass
I survived off a whiskey and afghan hash
They said I wasn’t fit
Shipped me back to alabam'
Where folks is much more grateful, but just don’t understand
To assume that I’m a hero, we would’ve had to win
You can thank me for my service, when you’ve been where I’ve been
When you shake my hand and smile at me, it’s a politician's grin
Just leave me be, “we are free” and we can just be friends
That all happened years ago
And time it sure goes fast
When drugs are the throttle, and whiskey is the gas
My gears they are a-grindin’
As I put it to the floor
And when my tank gets empty, I come on back for more
To assume that I’m a hero, we would’ve had to win
You can thank me for my service, when you’ve been where I’ve been
When you shake my hand and smile at me, it’s a politician's grin
Just leave me be, “we are free” and we can just be friends

Ragtime Lament

Don't you know I'm standing here wondering where you're at
I’m sure that you're leaving I’m not sure you're coming back
Let me give you one more reason to stay right here and fight
As long as we do there will be no end in sight
I've been passing under ladders
And crossing black cats
Everywhere I look the mirrors are cracked
I've got the high times bad times living with the ragtime blues
I give you everything I have and you only want more
I look out the window and you go out the door
If it weren't for bad luck I wouldn't have a thing
If you'd be my queen i’m sure i could be king
I've been passing under ladders
And crossing black cats
Everywhere I look the mirrors are cracked
I've got the high times bad times living with the ragtime blues
I keep waiting for my luck to change
I find myself calling your name
I keep reading the letter you wrote
The words so thick they're stuck in my throat

Don't Bother
04:47
|
|||
There’s a fire inside of us burning bright red
Violence in our nature that’s why we all end up dead
You think your god can save you well that’s all in your head
The first time we met I knew I was done in
I held her close with a dark and wicked grin
The next thing you know she’s gone and killed again
Lead and steel
Made me feel
Like I’m cursed and I don’t care
So don’t bother sending prayers
They won’t get me anywhere
She’s cold and she’s loud and she’s always spittin’ flame
Slight her even once and she’ll remember your name
She’ll strike you down but I always get the blame
State of Alabama gave me a new necktie
Twisted in a knot and strung me up so high
And I thrashed and I writhed but I just can’t fly
Lead and steel
Made me feel
Like I’m cursed and I don’t care
So don’t bother sending prayers
They won’t get me anywhere
Don’t bother prayin’ for me
I was blind but now I see
I see the end is nigh
And I ain’t afraid to die
I just hope that hell ain’t dry

Another Year Gone
04:34
|
|||
Too proud to come home and too lonely to cry
Check the the mirrors and head on down the drive
It's the choices we make that drive us apart
It might be too late to make a new start
Another year gone with much to resolve
Don't want to be the one who makes the call
You can look to the sky you can close your eyes
Hang your head and cry, it's too hard to try
Another year gone with nothing to show
Another year gone, I just don't know
Maybe the answer is better left unknown
Maybe it's time for me to go
It's true that I’ve missed you and sometimes feel blue
But there's radio silence and nothing to do
It's New Years Day and I'm all alone
But it doesn't feel the same now that you're gone

Alpha
04:10
|
|||
Way up in the Rockies near the Mirror Plateau
Roamed a lone female with a mask of black
She hunted hard and killed on her own
Drifted those mountains and avoided the packs
Settled in the valley with a rangy black mate
With a family to feed and not enough help
Struck out on her own on the dangerous trail
A fearless hunter, she brought down the elk
Loved by many and hated by some
Forced from the land where many once roamed
Ranchers and hunters and others would seek
To bring down the alpha roaming those peaks
With a pack of her own they struggled to survive
Fought through the winter and marauding packs
Through it all they managed to thrive
She roamed and hunted but she always came back
One day she wandered far from safe bounds
Out to Wyoming where danger would lay
A distant rifle would bring her down
The fearless Alpha had seen her last day
Loved by many and hated by some
Forced from the land where many once roamed
Ranchers and hunters and others would seek
To bring down the alpha roaming those peaks
Late at night along the Mirror Plateau
Once was heard a lonesome sound
The pack’s moved on and are heard no more
They are wary travelers over dangerous ground
